Verdad organizada
Description
In the face of organized lies, organized truth. How can we combat post-truth? With pre-truth, a concept coined and defined by Enrique Sueiro as the conscious respect for reality — offering a foundation of verification on which diverse opinions and free behavior can stand. The book emphasizes that truth does not have self-defensive power and needs someone to defend it against threats such as:
- Ignorance: not knowing strangles freedom.
- Disproportion: magnifying the trivial and silencing the important.
- Displacement: shifting reference points.
- Perceptions: they must adapt to reality, not the other way around.
- Thoughtlessness: not thinking weakens the human condition.
- Bias: the worst part of prejudice is being unaware of suffering from it.
- Emotions: emotional stimuli act before rational ones.
- Rashness: the faster we go, the less attention we pay.
- Saturation: an excess of irrelevant information.
- Distraction: the secondary distracts from what’s important.
- Forgetfulness: pathological when it comes to what’s relevant, healthy for what’s trivial.
- Dogmatism: presenting statements as undeniable truths.
The author concludes that “the best communication does not guarantee a credible truth, but poor communication ruins its credibility.”
