Liderazgo y compromiso cívico en el siglo XXI
Description
This monograph brings together several of the papers presented at the seminars organized within the framework of the project on leadership and civic engagement, funded by the Tatiana Foundation. Between 2022 and 2024, the project was carried out in collaboration with 16 Spanish public universities, involving the participation of 1,800 students and 300 faculty members.
The principal investigator, Paloma Durán y Lalaguna, coordinated this volume, which includes contributions—listed in alphabetical order—from Nuria Belloso (Burgos), Sara Benedi (Sutherland, Ireland), Víctor Lapuente (Gothenburg, Sweden), Carmen Lázaro (Jaume I), Consuelo Martínez-Sicluna (Complutense University of Madrid), Amparo Montañana (Jaume I), Milagros Otero (Santiago de Compostela), and Mariano Vivancos (Valencia).
As stated in UNESCO’s 2022 report, a critical and engaged citizenship begins with an education that teaches people to think, not merely to obey. With this aim, the project was developed and dialogue with students was encouraged. It is hoped that this work will help inspire many people to reflect in terms of civic leadership.

Paloma Durán y Lalaguna is a researcher and academic at IE University, specializing in leadership, civic engagement, and public ethics. She has coordinated interdisciplinary projects involving Spanish and international universities, fostering dialogue between academia and students to promote critical thinking and civic responsibility. Her work emphasizes education as a foundation for engaged citizenship and human-centered leadership.
